Graco Seatbelt Locking Clip

Product Description

A locking clip minimizes the movement of the plate part of the seat belt which clicks into the buckle. On some seat belts these "latch plates," as they are commonly referred to, slide freely on the belt strap and so it is necessary to use a locking clip to get as snug a fit for your child car seat. All Graco child car seats with integrated harness systems come with a locking clip but it can be a good idea to buy an extra one or two for your other automobiles. Features and Benefits: For proper installation of car seats in vehicles with shoulder, lap belts that have a sliding latch plate Locking clip minimizes movement of sliding latch plate to assist in a snug fit for your car seat Recommended Use: Works with any car seat that includes an integrated harness system Specifications: Dimensions: 5.625"H x 3.75"W x 0.25"D Weight: 0.108 lbs.

  • It minimizes movement of sliding latch plate for a snug fitting car seat
  • Works with any car seat with an integrated harness system

5.0 out of 5 stars YOU MUST HAVE THIS if you own an older car and have a seat-belt mounted car seat base!, September 11, 2008

This works with all standard car seat belts, and all brands of child car seats. YOU MUST HAVE THIS if you own an older car and have a lap/shoulder belt-mounted child car seat or car seat base! YOU DO NOT NEED THIS if you use the LATCH mounting system. In most older cars, with a combination lap/shoulder belt, regardless of what kind of retractor or locking mechanism the vehicle has, if you don't use a locking clip (or if you have one and attach it to the wrong part of the belt, as I did until someone explained it) and you have an accident--or even just brake hard or turn to try to avoid an accident--your car seat or car seat base will likely pull the slack out of the lap portion of the belt and will get additional slack from the belt that goes up to the shoulder mount. What this looks like is the seat tilts away from the side where the shoulder belt anchor is, and toward the front of the vehicle, producing a twisting motion which is dangerous to the child's back and neck. 5.0 out of 5 stars Graco Seatbelt Locking Clip, September 6, 2010

I absolutely love these clips. I use them not for a child's car seat but to keep the seatbelt off my neck. I put the clip on the part of the belt that fits across my lap then take the upper part of the seatbelt that fits across my chest and tuck only one edge of it under one of the Graco clips flanges. It pulls it far enough of my neck that it doesn't rub it raw and yet if I hit the brakes or an accident happened the belt would pull out of the edge it's tucked in and function exactly as it should for safety.

I'm sick of seeing reviews where a person posts that you don't need one of these locking clips if your car has LATCH. Sure, you don't need a locking clip with LATCH, BUT, LATCH has a weight limit. check your car's manual! We practice extended rearfacing and extended harnessing. My son is currently 5 years old and in a Graco Nautilus and still in a five point harness and we have to use seatbelts because he bypassed the weight limit for LATCH. (Usually 40 or 48 pounds depending on your vehicle.)
